Four Month Check-Up

Well, I went to the doctor today for my four month check up. Once again I had to get four shots. I did a good job and barely cried at all (just a little scream when I realized that I was poked). I think I saw a couple tears in Mommy's eyes though.

They measured me and weighed me and poked me just like the last time I went to the doctor. I knew I was growing a lot, but I found out today that I really AM a big girl! I now weigh 18 pounds, 9 ounces. This puts me in the 100th percentile. Yes, that's right, I said 100th percentile. I bet you didn't even think that was possible! But, you know me ... I'm an overachiever!

I am 25.5 inches tall (89th percentile) and my brain is growing with how smart I'm becoming so that my head is now 17 inches in circumference. That puts my head in the 94th percentile.

The doctor said all looks good and I seem to be healthy, so I will go back in September for my 6th month visit. He also said I could start eating solids between now and then if I want to. I think I might try out some rice cereal soon and see how that goes. I can make some pretty funny faces when something unfamiliar-tasting gets in my mouth, so it should be entertaining for Mommy and Daddy when I try out some new foods!

Aunt Kat got to come with me to the doctor, so afterwards we went to Wal-mart and then out to eat lunch. Today is her wedding anniversary, so I was lucky that she chose to spend some of her special day with me! (Happy Anniversary Aunt Kat and Uncle Matthew!)

After eating lunch, Aunt Kat had to go home and get ready for her big date. Mommy and I had a couple more errands to run, then we came home. I was SO exhausted from all the excitement of the day/getting shots in my poor little legs, so I fell asleep right when we got home.

Mommy thought maybe this might mean she would get some time to be productive, but she underestimates me! I was awake again within 20 minutes! Gotta keep Mommy on her toes, even after a busy morning!

(P.S. Happy Birthday, Pop!)

Four Months Old!

Today I am four months old! I am really growing up fast. Not only have I grown in size (I'm wearing 6-9 month clothes now), but I have also matured a lot this month. I can entertain myself for several minutes at a time. My favorite time to do this is in the morning when I wake up. Back when I was younger, I used to wake up and cry in the mornings so that someone would pay attention to me without delay. Now that I'm older :) and more mature, I wake up happy and talk to myself for 5-15 minutes before I yell for Mommy to come get me. I think she stands on the other side of the door, eavesdropping, because once I call for her she's there in less than a second (mommies are sneaky, you have to watch out for them!).

I've also acted a lot more grown up about getting buckled into my car seat. I'm not saying it's my favorite ... let's just say I've gotten in there at least 3 times without crying (if you've seen this process at all you know that's a big deal for me). Oh! Did I mention that I moved to my own bed in my own room this month?! This is more of an accomplishment for Mommy than it is for me, but I'll humor her.

This month I have learned how to coordinate my hand movements even more, and can grab things and actually hold onto them with the intent to put them directly in my mouth. I have also noticed my feet. Who knew there were even more fun appendages to play with! I have even tried to grab a foot every once in a while and bring it toward my mouth, but I haven't been too successful with this so far.

During my fourth month, I experienced my first Tugaloo, my first 4th of July, my first baby play dates, my first putt-putt game, and much much more. I can't believe how much stuff there is to learn and do. During my 5th month, I will start daycare and make even more new baby friends. So keep checking back in for more updates. It's going to be another great month!

Tugaloo 2008

I just got home from my first week at Tugaloo! Some of you may not know that my family has been going to Tugaloo for 29 years! They stay in the same cabins every year and play putt-putt, tennis, go swimming, fish, eat homemade ice cream, play Rook and Spinner, and lots of other stuff. This was my first year so I had to try everything out for the first time. I had so much fun, and I really enjoyed playing with my cousins and aunts and uncles and grandparents, etc. Here are some pictures from my fun week at Tugaloo:

Playing tennis (I learned you gotta keep your eye on the ball)

Swinging in Cousin Kerry's swing (she was so nice to share it with me!)

Playing Spinner with the grown ups

Helping out with the ice cream churning

Chatting on the deck with Grampa

Enjoying the beautiful sunset

Watching everybody play volleyball (I'm not old enough for volleyball yet, but I was taking notes so I will be ready soon!)

Trying out Thelma's frozen lemonade (my Mommy LOVES this stuff)

Roasting a marshmallow over the campfire

All dressed up for July 4th

The whole family at cabin 12 ...
I can't wait until next year!!!

Packing for Tugaloo!

Tomorrow we are leaving to go to Tugaloo State Park. My mommy's family has been going there every summer for almost 30 years! We have been working hard to get all packed and ready to go. We won't be back for an entire week! Try not to miss me too much ... I will post lots of pictures when I get back!

Some more pictures to hold you over until I come back:

Having fun

Just sitting around

Yummy donuts

Laughing
(Please disregard Mommy's crazy lady laugh. Oh, and she was trying to hold me sitting up in her lap, and video me at the same time, so she apologizes that half of the video is of my chin)

Ohhh ... That's what they're for...

So, as you know I discovered my hands a few weeks ago. After studying them for many hours over the past few weeks and observing how the older babies and grown ups use their hands, I finally decided what they should be used for ... holding things!

I like to hold all kinds of things now. I usually just keep moving my hands and hope for the best when something is within reach. Sometimes I connect and sometimes I have to try again and again. It can get frustrating at times, but I just keep trying and trying and trying. When I do get hold of something, I like to put it in my mouth to see how it tastes.

I'm getting a lot better at this hand thing! Here are some more pictures of me holding/tasting things.

I see Mommy and Daddy drinking out of these cup things, so I thought I would try it.

"Helloooo! Anything in there???"

"Empty?!?!"

Now I can hold my book all by myself. This is a good book (but not as good as Green Eggs and Ham!)

P.S. This has nothing to do with hands or holding things, but I wanted to tell you ...

I have decided to use my voice as much as possible these days to make as much noise as I possibly can. Here is a video of the sound I made all day today. And by "all" day I mean ALLLLLLLLL day.

Baby Play Date!

I went to play with some friends on Thursday. Their names are Jesse and Ryan. Mommy and Daddy know their parents from UGA. I never had met these friends before, but one of them (Jesse) stood on me a long time ago. (That's me in Mommy's tummy). So, I felt like I knew him already!

It was a long ride, but I was good in the car.

When we got there, I had fun watching Jesse play. He can move around a lot. He even walks a little bit. He's fast. I can't wait until I can move around like him.

Then, Ryan and I had a little tummy time. It was Jesse's turn to watch us. We practiced moving our arms and legs so that we can learn to crawl soon!

Later the parents wanted to eat some food, so they took us to Red Robin. The hamburgers looked good. I think I will like to eat at Red Robin in a few years.

Then, after a long dinner (during which I demanded to be held and bounced the entire time) we said goodbye. Ryan was a little sleepy still - he was a good baby and slept during dinner - so we just said goodbye from the comfort of our carseats. Jesse came over and said goodbye and told me that he wanted to play again soon. I hope we can. He's a fun guy.

After we babies said bye to each other, the parents stood around and talked a little longer. I thought they were taking too long, so I let out a yell to tell Mommy and Daddy to get me to the car and drive me home! Finally they all said bye and we were on our way home!

We didn't get home that night until after 11:00 p.m. so I was super tired! I made up for it by sleeping all the way until 10:00 the next morning!

Baby play dates are fun!!!
